The Tamar Orchard Barn

In the heart of a walking Paradise, the self-catering Tamar Orchard Barn is approached down Sandhill House’s woodland carriage drive. Set in the tranquil, two acre landscaped gardens, overlooking uninterrupted views of the stunning Tamar Valley, Sandhill is set airily above the Tamar River. Surrounded by 20 acres of wildlife meadows, where you can watch the ever changing scene, of wildflowers, hay and ethereal mists rolling away with the tidal river Tamar. Wild Dartmoor National Park beckons beyond.

Just 10 minutes from historic Tavistock, and 15 minutes from Dartmoor, the Barn is within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and on the borders of both the Devon and Cornwall World Heritage Site.  As you approach the enchanting Barn, you will enjoy the formal water gardens, before finding yourself in an oasis of green and surrounded by nature; if you are lucky you will see the Fallow deer and their faun in the flower meadows below.

The bright and airy Tamar Orchard Barn was once the apple store for the grandest house in Gunnislake. Now it is a fusion of contemporary comfort, whilst echoing its ancient origins with the old stable door, wooden beams and traditional granite stonewalls.

The stunning bathroom continues to echo the origins of the Barn with rare slate lining the walk-in shower, slate wash hand basin and under-floor heating warming the natural limestone floor in Winter.

After an action-packed day ‘discovering the extraordinary’, in this ‘hidden’ Valley and beyond, you can retreat to your cosy barn and relax with a glass of wine on the private, south facing terrace and perhaps cook up a feast on the BBQ. Then as the balmy evening draws out you can star gaze making the most of the bright light quality of the skies. Then sink into the king-sized, solid ash bed with luxurious linen, and listen to the silence, only to fall into a deep and uninterrupted night’s sleep.

Perfect for relaxation and recreation, The Tamar Orchard Barn makes a superb escape to create memorable Cornish adventures.
